Why did we decide to run this Professional Development Series?
Cassandra receives requests every week from other Psychologists, Provisional Psychologists, and Masters-level students of psychology or counseling programs asking for help with learning formal assessment. Last year, a Provisional Psychologist said “why don’t you run a course on how to do this? I’ve looked and I can’t find one to sign up for!”. It was that conversation and the countless requests that Cassandra receives for help with learning to do formal assessment that resulted in this course being developed.
What Cassandra has noticed over the years is that those who do not have training in formal assessment may not realize that learning assessment involves more than just delivering instructions or asking questions. Having a strong foundational understanding of assessment and assessment measures is important in order to provide an excellent end-product that helps to understand and reflect the person being assessed, as well as provide useful recommendations. This course on the WIAT is part of the series of courses in formal assessment intended to help professionals in Psychology feel confident in their skills and deliver excellent assessments
